Matadero Madrid and Cineteca celebrate the second edition of Animario. Festival Internacional de Animación Contemporánea de Madrid, which dedicates 4 days to the world of animation and its creators through screenings, talks, conferences and exhibitions.
This edition of the festival presents animations based on reality, with themes such as colonialism, gender visions, conflicts arising from emigration and environmental issues. Along with them, we will also find unusual fictions, some based on existing works, and a special cycle on animals in animation. Humour, whether black, white, adult or subtle, is present in many of these works, with all their power, sympathetic and subversive.
From fantasy unleashed to pieces based on real facts, from pencil to computer, from fiction to avant-garde… animation is already one more of the artistic tools of audiovisual creation, and it is making its way through its creative freedom and infinite possibilities. Animario focuses on an animated cinema with a personal stamp, a cinema that takes risks in order to be a source of ideas and aesthetic proposals. The selection of the festival, curated by animation specialist Carolina López, is conceived as a celebration of animated art between newly created works and rediscoveries of the past, turning Matadero Madrid and Cineteca into the epicentre of graphic cinema.
The festival will screen experimental works such as Wasteland No. 2: Hardy, Hearty I by director Jodie Mack, unpublished films such as Je sors acheter des cigarettes by Osman Cerfon and expected titles such as Pulsión by Pedro Casavecchia. An endless number of novelties that will conclude with the celebration of the international competition of short films in which the winner will win a prize of 5000 euros.
