AI is a powerful technology and there is no shortage of its merits. It has disrupted many industries and today we highlight how it has impacted the graphic design sector.
Industries have created powerful AI systems to perform systematic and complex tasks that are intended to facilitate processes and that have often replaced human labor.
There is no doubt that technology is necessary and that in very specific cases these advances have achieved more robust mechanisms of online security, data analysis and programming, but as far as Digital Design is concerned, will Artificial Intelligence ever replace the work of creative people?
The rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
AI has matured a lot today, the technology has had an important evolution. Its greatest achievement can be seen in logo design. With just a couple of commands in two minutes we can create a logo with very outstanding visual qualities.
Tailor Brands , for example. It is a highly advanced digital logo design software based on an Artificial Intelligence that can produce attractive and unique image combinations for entrepreneurs looking for a quick, easy and economical solution. Of course, it cannot match the work of human designers, but it meets the basic characteristics a person can look for to solve a simple professional problem and offers tons of customizable features. Most importantly, as the name suggests, AI can imitate a human designer in understanding basic design requirements.
A few years ago, the very thought that a software application could process human requirements for a basic graphic design such as a logo was simply unheard of. However, now by spending just a few minutes of your time answering certain questions and choosing variables, you can develop a custom image.
There are many examples of technology industries that also use artificial intelligence. Like Adobe Sensei´s new artificial intelligence tool, which uses machine learning to make it easy to create perfect customer experiences through visual assets. It can even function as an assistant for creative work, helping us achieve photorealistic effects or finding content through intuitive search.
These examples show that AI has not only made inroads into the digital design space, but has become an indispensable component in giving a new direction to the industry.
Can AI Replace Designers?
Tools that use AI are in vogue today, however, the good news is that graphic designers need not fear them. This is because, at least at this stage, AI can only serve to facilitate graphic design processes, and they still need the human hand to be programmed.
We cannot stay away from these advances because they also represent benefits for the design industry, they can help us to perform repetitive tasks that often seem tedious or they can help us to process images and renderings achieving that the time we spend in front of the computer is drastically reduced. The reality is that IAs will not replace designers, but simply work as their assistants.
WEAKNESSES OF IAS COMPARED TO HUMAN DESIGN.
1) UNDERSTANDING THE NUANCES THAT ARE NATURAL TO HUMANS
Despite the long haul and impressive technological advances, AI is far from comparable to human intelligence. This is basically because humans have emotional intelligence unlike AIs.
We are able to understand body language, subtle changes in voice and tone, and the messages we receive when we read between the lines. This understanding of common nuances is absent in AI, so it can be difficult to make an AI software understand what we really want it to do when there are subtleties in the design.
One of the characteristics that makes us special as a species is our ability to imagine. Many geniuses who walked the face of the Earth created music, paintings and poems that are simply works of art that cannot be replicated. AI doesn’t have that kind of ability, they can’t imagine.
3) HUMAN TOUCH
We know that e-commerce is experiencing its greatest boom, however, many people still prefer to shop at local stores. This is because they get a personalized experience by shopping in person, outside, on the streets. The store owner can understand your requirements and give recommendations in a way that cannot be matched by an online service.
The same principle can be seen in graphic design. There are many customers who want a more human touch, a specialized service, a person who can listen to their problems and create designs that adequately meet their needs.
Artificial intelligence is a powerful technology and its merits are not in doubt. It has entered many industries and we will surely see more achievements in the future, as technology evolves and tries to be more and more humane.
In short, AI still depends on us and requires the participation of graphic designers to perform the vast majority of its tasks. So, for now, we can say that it has made simple tasks easier for design professionals and that for some consumers it has made it very basic to create images for their businesses, however, to take advantage of its full potential, we must wait a little longer.
